I was lucky enough to get invited to masterchef Tetsutya Wakuda’s master class some days ago. The master class was held in Tetsuya’s demo kitchen in his Sydney restaurant, which has been custom designed for Tetsuya by Electrolux. This kitchen was very impressive; sleek, simple, modern with a lot of smart features such as tapless sinks (the water is controlled by a kneepad!). Very Scandinavian (yes, Electrolux is a Swedish brand!).
During the master class Tetsuya cooked 7 wonderful dishes for us. But the night wasn’t over yet – after the master class a long table was set in the kitchen and we sat down to have Tetsuya’s degustation menu. Another 11 heavenly dishes (with matching wine) were served, including chilled cucumber soup with sheep yoghurt ice cream, sashimi of yellow fin tuna with shishito & garlic ships, pancetta wrapped quail breast with parmesan quinoa, b
I must say that my favourite was Tetsuya’s signature dish; Confit Petuna Ocean Trout with Konbu, Celery & Apple – YUM!
Tetsuya’s Masterkitchen features the dark and seductive Electrolux Ebony Kitchen Collection. The black glossy range features touch electronic controls, smooth panel doors and a sleek black finish. I loved how the glossy surfaces didn’t leave any fingerprints at all!
I absolutely loved the painting in Tetsuya’s master kitchen, it is by Julie Harris and just really brightens up the room I thought.
Towards the end of the night someone asked Tetsuya if he likes eating the food that he cooks, and Tetsuya replied “you have to have a passion for eating before you can have a passion for cooking”. Well, I sure would have a passion for cooking too if I could cook in a kictchen like Tetsuyas!
