Gossip Girl Set

This weekend I finally had time to catch up with my favourite Upper East Siders in Gossip Girl. I think it is safe to say that most people like Gossip Girl for the fashion (because, come on, the story line isn’t much to brag about), and while I do drool over the Valentino bags and Manolo Blahniks I have to admit that the decor is what really draws my attention.

So, welcome to the van der Woodsen’s apartment. Let’s take the tour (you can also do a 360 tour of the livingroom here).

The main living area pictured above is roughly 47 by 37 feet. The  apartment is composed of clean, simple lines and shapes. But in keeping with Upper East Side tradition, it is still very formal in its presentation and layout. A bit too formal for my taste, maybe.

Lilly’s work space at the base of the stairs is an eclectic mix of refined pieces and avant-garde items. “She’s a happening matron” says Loren Weeks, the Production Designer. While this is not really my style, I do like the faux-cowhide rug.

Serena’s bedroom. Weeks wanted the space to reflect the Serena’s personality- effortlessly beautiful and self-assured. Her room is a confident, eclectic mix of funky new and classic vintage items, decorated with bold patterns and metallic accents. Not sure if I like the silver metallic cushions in the photo below, but I do like the soft beige color combination.

My favourite part of this apartment is the “Prada Marfa” poster in the main living area.

There is actually a quite interesting story behind this poster too. Marfa is a small town in Texas, and this, ladies and gentlemen, is the Prada Marfa store:

So. Why would a brand like Prada set up a store in the middle of nowhere, next to a desert highway? As you might have already suspected, it isn’t a store, and never has been. The “abandoned” Prada store is a permanent art installation filled with shoes donated by Prada, and created by German artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset. If you love the poster as much as I do you can buy it from www.worksonwhatever.com
