I´m in London to visit my sister for a few days and then I’ll be heading over to Sweden to catch up with friends and family. I’m so excited to see everyone again, and also very excited to show you around my hometown when I get to Sweden!
This is what is on the schedule for our London weekend so far:
• Shopping (Zara Home and Anthropologie are on my list)
• Grace Kelly Exhibition tadalafil buy at Victoria and Albert Museum
• Musical (Hair?)
• Boatride on Thames
• Flea Market
Anyone have any tips on what to do in London?

Saturday, June 26th, 2010fabric tape
Friday, June 18th, 2010I have two final exams coming up shortly but have no motivation whatsoever to study. Reading blogs is so much more fun! Lisa at The Red Thread Blog has a great post about how to make your own fabric tape. This is how you do it:
Stick double sided tape onto the back of a piece of fabric, rub it down so it really sticks to the tape, and then trim the fabric along the side of the tape. When you’re ready to use your new fabric tape, just peel off the paper backing. Super easy and super buy tadalafil cool!

I’m not sure what I will use it for yet though…any suggestions?
less is more
Wednesday, June 16th, 2010Someone asked me the other day if there is any specific Interior Design style or any type of decorating that I strongly dislike. I couldn’t think of anything at the spot. But, after this weekend’s adventures I know the answer to the question: clutter! I absolutely and positively hate clutter.
We had to stop by a friend of a friend’s house this weekend to pick something up. I stepped into the living room and there were little figurines and cushions and vases and decorations and photo-frames levitra kaufen and stuffed animals and painted cups and decals and porcelain dolls and trophies and birthday cards on every single surface and it was (phu) a little hard to breathe.
You know when you walk into a room and you are totally overwhelmed by the amount of decorations and you almost have to take a step back because it is just too much to take in? When you don’t know where to focus your eyes because there is just too much to look at, and you are afraid to move in case you knock something over? Well, that was exactly what this was like. It was my grandmother’s livingroom to the power of 1000.
It is truly impressive how someone can fit that much junk into one single room. Impressive in a I-would-never-want to-live-there kind of way. And all I wanted to do was to scream “Less is more, LESS IS MORE!”. I don’t think this lady has ever heard that expression.
So, Excessive-Junk-Collection-Lady, this is for you:
Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features. Architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe adopted the motto “Less is more” to describe his aesthetic tactic of arranging the numerous necessary components of a building to create an impression of extreme simplicity, by enlisting every element and detail to serve multiple visual and functional purposes (Wikipedia).
Well. That was all I wanted to say.

Cushions
Monday, June 14th, 2010My home is in desperate need of cushions, both for the couch and for some chairs and for the bedroom. I was going to make some myself and found these great photos for inspiration:

fairytale wedding
Tuesday, June 8th, 2010I’m sure that most of you have seen some of the fabulous table settings in IKEA’s “Fest i Slott & Koja” campaign by now. Well, here are some photos from the same IKEA campaign (inspired by the upcoming royal wedding in Sweden of course). Lo Bjurulf has created this fairytale-style setting:

You can view some of the other themes here. And (if you undertand Swedish), you can listen to Lo Bjurulf speak about the theme here.
satc 2: carrie & big’s new apt
Sunday, June 6th, 2010OK, so I went to see Sex and the City 2 the other day. I knew that it got some pretty bad reviews, and yes, I (like most people) liked the first movie much better. But, from an interior design point of view, the sequel was quite interesting.
My favourite part of the movie was when Carrie declares that she has been “cheating on fashion with furniture” when the salesclerk at Bergdorf wonders where she’s been. She has been busy decorating her and Big’s new apartment. I can’t really decide if I like the new apartment or not. It seems to be more Big and less Carrie. It is nice, no doubt, but very different from her old apartment (which was always my favourite part of the series). It is less boheme, more grown up (more expensive no doubt), very trendy and maybe a bit…impersonal?

The livingroom. Both the Candy Flower rug (by Marni) and the Birdie Blossom Cushion (by Paul Smith) are from The Rug Company. I can only imagine what this movie must have done for their sales levels! The blue seat is actually designed by Finnish Anne Kyyrrö Quinn. My favourite part of this room is the coffe table, very interesting idea having the books standing up. I think I like it! Also note the blue Chinese Foo Dog statues used as book supports.

The bedroom. This room has a very “hotel-ish” feeling to me, but I do love the Harem Rug (by Tasmin de Roemer) Designer Collection. The other thing I like about this room is the bed headbord fabric, Velvet Gate Tuxedo from Kravet. Very nice! the wallpaper in this room, Rococo Damask, is by Cole & Son.

The kitchen. This is my favourite part of the apartment. I like the clean lines and the retro table and chairs. The rug is Starflower Blue, by Barber & Osgerby from the Designer Collection.
Designer Lydia Marks was responsible for decorating the apartment. What do you think about it?

papershop
Sunday, June 6th, 2010I found these pretty cards and posters from Papershop, a Finnish paper shop inspired by Kate’s Paperie in New York:

decorating rentals tip #2
Thursday, June 3rd, 2010The apartment I used to live in in Sweden had a horrible kitchen. The building was from the 60’s and the kitchen cupbords and tiles were a lovely mix of purple and brown. Yuck. My solution? Vinyl tile-stickers! They are relatively easy to attach and they come off easily too. And it makes such a big difference! Here are some examples I found:

I thought this was kind of funny. “Din Disk” is Swedish and means “Your dishes”. These alphabet tile-stickers can be bought from Bokstavskakel.

Tile stickers can be used in bathrooms too, of course. I found these mirror stickers at Shoppinggatan.
