Tetsuyas

Monday, June 13th, 2011

I was lucky enough to get invited to masterchef Tetsutya Wakuda’s master class some days ago. The master class was held in Tetsuya’s demo kitchen in his Sydney restaurant, which has been custom designed for Tetsuya by Electrolux.  This kitchen was very impressive; sleek, simple, modern with a lot of smart features such as tapless sinks (the water is controlled by a kneepad!). Very Scandinavian (yes, Electrolux is a Swedish brand!).

During the master class Tetsuya cooked 7 wonderful dishes for us. But the night wasn’t over yet – after the master class a long table was set in the kitchen and we sat down to have Tetsuya’s degustation menu. Another 11 heavenly dishes (with matching wine) were served, including chilled cucumber soup with sheep yoghurt ice cream, sashimi of yellow fin tuna with shishito & garlic ships, pancetta wrapped quail breast with parmesan quinoa, braised ox tail with sea cucumber and many other delicious dishes.

I must say that my favourite was Tetsuya’s signature dish; Confit Petuna Ocean Trout with Konbu, Celery & Apple – YUM!

Tetsuya’s Masterkitchen features the dark and seductive Electrolux Ebony Kitchen Collection. The black glossy range features touch electronic controls, smooth panel doors and a sleek black finish. I loved how the glossy surfaces didn’t leave any fingerprints at all!

I absolutely loved the painting in Tetsuya’s master kitchen, it is  by Julie Harris and just really brightens up the room I thought.

Towards the end of the night someone asked Tetsuya  if he likes eating the food that he cooks, and Tetsuya replied “you have to have a passion for eating before you can have a passion for cooking”. Well, I sure would have a passion for cooking too if I could cook in a  kictchen like Tetsuyas!

Vinyl Wall designs

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I got a package from Julia at Vinyl Wall Designs a couple of weeks ago with their “Five Birds on Wire” wall sticker. I have been dying to get it up but things have been extremely hectic here lately. Well, this morning I finally had a couple of minutes to spare and this is the result:

Gossip Girl Set

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

This weekend I finally had time to catch up with my favourite Upper East Siders in Gossip Girl. I think it is safe to say that most people like Gossip Girl for the fashion (because, come on, the story line isn’t much to brag about), and while I do drool over the Valentino bags and Manolo Blahniks I have to admit that the decor is what really draws my attention.

So, welcome to the van der Woodsen’s apartment. Let’s take the tour (you can also do a 360 tour of the livingroom here).

The main living area pictured above is roughly 47 by 37 feet. The  apartment is composed of clean, simple lines and shapes. But in keeping with Upper East Side tradition, it is still very formal in its presentation and layout. A bit too formal for my taste, maybe.

Lilly’s work space at the base of the stairs is an eclectic mix of refined pieces and avant-garde items. “She’s a happening matron” says Loren Weeks, the Production Designer. While this is not really my style, I do like the faux-cowhide rug.

Serena’s bedroom. Weeks wanted the space to reflect the Serena’s personality- effortlessly beautiful and self-assured. Her room is a confident, eclectic mix of funky new and classic vintage items, decorated with bold patterns and metallic accents. Not sure if I like the silver metallic cushions in the photo below, but I do like the soft beige color combination.

My favourite part of this apartment is the “Prada Marfa” poster in the main living area.

There is actually a quite interesting story behind this poster too. Marfa is a small town in Texas, and this, ladies and gentlemen, is the Prada Marfa store:

So. Why would a brand like Prada set up a store in the middle of nowhere, next to a desert highway? As you might have already suspected, it isn’t a store, and never has been. The “abandoned” Prada store is a permanent art installation filled with shoes donated by Prada, and created by German artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset. If you love the poster as much as I do you can buy it from www.worksonwhatever.com

yellow mellow

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Yellow has never been my favourite colour for decoration…or anything else for that matter. I’m not sure why. Maybe it is just too bright for my scandinavian self. N says I’m a safe shopper because I always opt for things that are black, white or gray (I blame it on my Scandinavian heritage). buy diet pills Or maybe it is simply because the Swedish word for yellow (”Gult”)  rhymes with the Swedish word for ugly (”Fult”). Well, for some reason, lately,  I have been starting to think that yellow is kind of…nice. Actaully. Especially when it is paied with gray, which has been very popular for some time now.

concrete creations

Friday, July 16th, 2010

I love concrete as a material, it is very simple, cold, still so full of character. I recently stumbled upon this video showing  images from a competition held by the craft supply store Panduro. Great inspiration for concrete projects!

This image is from Ellas Inspiration, where she used a silicon muffin tray to make these lovely concrete roses.

You can also use simple paper muffin cups, as in this photo from Susannes Kreativa Sida.

I can’t wait to get started on my own concrete project. I like the square candle holder in the video, and it looks fairly simple to make, so I think that will be my first attempt. I’ll let you know how I go!

fabric tape

Friday, June 18th, 2010

I have two final exams coming up shortly but have no motivation whatsoever to study. Reading blogs is so much more fun! Lisa at The Red Thread Blog has a great post about how to make your own fabric tape. This is how you do it:

Stick double sided tape onto the back of a piece of fabric, rub it down so it really sticks to the tape, and then trim the fabric along the side of the tape. When you’re ready to use your new fabric tape,  just peel off the paper backing. Super easy and super buy tadalafil cool!

I’m not sure what I will use it for yet though…any suggestions?

Decorating rentals tip #1

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Make your own fabric-frames! This is an easy way to add some character to your plain and boring rental-walls. I have made many of these over the years and the good thing is that you can always change the fabric!

I usually make my own wooden frame (sometimes it levitra prescription is hard to get the right size if you buy a pre-made one), but it is a lot easier to just buy the frame. Another option is to buy a canvas and attach the fabric onto that. Use a stapler gun to attach the fabric and – voilá, you have your own fabric frame!

There is a lot of pretty fabrics available at Stockholm Moose.

If you don’t want to make any holes in your walls the fabric-frames can always just be leaned against the wall.
