yellow mellow

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Yellow has never been my favourite colour for decoration…or anything else for that matter. I’m not sure why. Maybe it is just too bright for my scandinavian self. N says I’m a safe shopper because I always opt for things that are black, white or gray (I blame it on my Scandinavian heritage). buy diet pills Or maybe it is simply because the Swedish word for yellow (”Gult”)  rhymes with the Swedish word for ugly (”Fult”). Well, for some reason, lately,  I have been starting to think that yellow is kind of…nice. Actaully. Especially when it is paied with gray, which has been very popular for some time now.

satc 2: carrie & big’s new apt

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

OK, so I went to see Sex and the City 2 the other day.  I knew that it got some pretty bad reviews, and yes, I (like most people) liked the first movie much better. But, from an interior design point of view, the sequel was quite interesting.

My favourite part of the movie was when Carrie declares that she has been “cheating on fashion with furniture” when the salesclerk at Bergdorf wonders where she’s been. She has been busy decorating her and Big’s new apartment. I can’t really decide if I like the new apartment or not. It seems to be more Big and less Carrie. It is nice, no doubt, but very different from her old apartment (which was always my favourite part of the series). It is less boheme, more grown up (more expensive no doubt), very trendy and maybe a bit…impersonal?

The livingroom. Both the Candy Flower rug (by Marni) and the Birdie Blossom Cushion (by Paul Smith) are from The Rug Company. I can only imagine what this movie must have done for their sales levels! The blue seat is actually designed by Finnish Anne Kyyrrö Quinn. My favourite part of this room is the coffe table, very interesting idea having the books standing up. I think I like it! Also note the blue Chinese Foo Dog statues used as book supports.

The other thing I like about this room is the bed headbord fabric, Velvet Gate Tuxedo from Kravet. Very nice! the wallpaper in this room, Rococo Damask, is by Cole & Son.

Designer Lydia Marks was responsible for decorating the apartment. What do you think about it?

pink

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I found this absolutely gorgeous pink chair on Anna Spiro’s blog Absolutely Beautiful Things. I have always had a thing for pink (when I was 5 I painted my bedroom with a pink marker!) so this is right up my alley.

I imagine this chair around my dining table with a group of other odd chairs painted in different colours (much like in the picture below from IKEA’s  Fest levitra buy on line i Koja och Slott campaign) . What do you think? I think it would look great!

perfect sofa bed, where are you?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I have been looking for a sofa bed to go in our new apartment for quite some time now, but I realised that nice sofa beds are hard to find. It is hard to find a sofa bed that doesn’t look too much like a sofa bed, if you know what I mean? If I wanted something that looked like a mattress with wheels on I would just, well, attach wheels to my mattress. Anyone have the same problem? This is the closes I have come so far to a merck propecia decent looking sofa bed (maybe a bit too officiey, or what do you think?):

furnish with a conscience

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Furnish with a Conscience is a campaign initiated by Salvos Stores to encourage people  to ‘reuse, reduce & help others’. The campaign is supported by interior designer & Channel 9’s homeMADE judge, Sibella Court and Better Homes and Gardens presenter Tara Dennis.

I love shopping at second hand and antique stores, because it gives you the chance to create a unique piece of furniture which definitely gives your home more character. Also, by re-uring old furniture from the Salvos you not only help others but also contribute to a better, cleaner environment eliminating tonnes of what would normally end up in landfill (plus it is cheaper than buying new “retro” furniture). These are some of the photos I found on the campaigns website:

classic retro meets 2010

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I have always had a thing for retro interiors á la 50’s or 60’s. Clean cut, simple, timeless designs. And now it looks like the retro style is on its way back on the interior decoration scene, with a modernised touch, this time. Arne Jacobsen’s classic ‘Myran’ chairs just came out in a new version with black legs in january, and ‘Ägget’ look-alike ‘Oyster’ (by Michael Sordet) is now availabe in bright pink. Classic retro meets 2010. Me like.

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I haven’t posted in a while. I have been busy moving an unpacking and moving furniture around and decorating and shopping. We went to IKEA last weekend and this is what we got:ikeapropecia for hair loss />

The white cabinets are going to be assembled to be our new TV cabinet, with nice walnut doors and a wine rack to go on it.

Lovely inspiration

I just found these very inspiring photos from Swedish photographer Pia Ulin:

I love the contrast between the rough cement walls and the crisp white details. Simple and effectful! Lamps similar to the lihghtbulbs shown in the left middle photo can be bought from Anthropologie (propicia target=”_blank”>Search for Blazon Gleam Pendants), and IKEA has cheap rice lamps like in the top right photo.
