Gossip Girl Set

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

This weekend I finally had time to catch up with my favourite Upper East Siders in Gossip Girl. I think it is safe to say that most people like Gossip Girl for the fashion (because, come on, the story line isn’t much to brag about), and while I do drool over the Valentino bags and Manolo Blahniks I have to admit that the decor is what really draws my attention.

So, welcome to the van der Woodsen’s apartment. Let’s take the tour (you can also do a 360 tour of the livingroom here).

The main living area pictured above is roughly 47 by 37 feet. The  apartment is composed of clean, simple lines and shapes. But in keeping with Upper East Side tradition, it is still very formal in its presentation and layout. A bit too formal for my taste, maybe.

Lilly’s work space at the base of the stairs is an eclectic mix of refined pieces and avant-garde items. “She’s a happening matron” says Loren Weeks, the Production Designer. While this is not really my style, I do like the faux-cowhide rug.

Serena’s bedroom. Weeks wanted the space to reflect the Serena’s personality- effortlessly beautiful and self-assured. Her room is a confident, eclectic mix of funky new and classic vintage items, decorated with bold patterns and metallic accents. Not sure if I like the silver metallic cushions in the photo below, but I do like the soft beige color combination.

My favourite part of this apartment is the “Prada Marfa” poster in the main living area.

interview-vending-art-basel-prada-4

There is actually a quite interesting story behind this poster too. Marfa is a small town in Texas, and this, ladies and gentlemen, is the Prada Marfa store:

So. Why would a brand like Prada set up a store in the middle of nowhere, next to a desert highway? As you might have already suspected, it isn’t a store, and never has been. The “abandoned” Prada store is a permanent art installation filled with shoes donated by Prada, and created by German artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset. If you love the poster as much as I do you can buy it from www.worksonwhatever.com

yellow mellow

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Yellow has never been my favourite colour for decoration…or anything else for that matter. I’m not sure why. Maybe it is just too bright for my scandinavian self. N says I’m a safe shopper because I always opt for things that are black, white or gray (I blame it on my Scandinavian heritage). buy diet pills Or maybe it is simply because the Swedish word for yellow (”Gult”)  rhymes with the Swedish word for ugly (”Fult”). Well, for some reason, lately,  I have been starting to think that yellow is kind of…nice. Actaully. Especially when it is paied with gray, which has been very popular for some time now.

Cushions

Monday, June 14th, 2010

My home is in desperate need of cushions, both for the couch and for some chairs and for the bedroom.  I was going to make some myself and found these great photos for inspiration:

satc 2: carrie & big’s new apt

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

OK, so I went to see Sex and the City 2 the other day.  I knew that it got some pretty bad reviews, and yes, I (like most people) liked the first movie much better. But, from an interior design point of view, the sequel was quite interesting.

My favourite part of the movie was when Carrie declares that she has been “cheating on fashion with furniture” when the salesclerk at Bergdorf wonders where she’s been. She has been busy decorating her and Big’s new apartment. I can’t really decide if I like the new apartment or not. It seems to be more Big and less Carrie. It is nice, no doubt, but very different from her old apartment (which was always my favourite part of the series). It is less boheme, more grown up (more expensive no doubt), very trendy and maybe a bit…impersonal?

The livingroom. Both the Candy Flower rug (by Marni) and the Birdie Blossom Cushion (by Paul Smith) are from The Rug Company. I can only imagine what this movie must have done for their sales levels! The blue seat is actually designed by Finnish Anne Kyyrrö Quinn. My favourite part of this room is the coffe table, very interesting idea having the books standing up. I think I like it! Also note the blue Chinese Foo Dog statues used as book supports.

The other thing I like about this room is the bed headbord fabric, Velvet Gate Tuxedo from Kravet. Very nice! the wallpaper in this room, Rococo Damask, is by Cole & Son.

Designer Lydia Marks was responsible for decorating the apartment. What do you think about it?

Lovely inspiration

I just found these very inspiring photos from Swedish photographer Pia Ulin:

I love the contrast between the rough cement walls and the crisp white details. Simple and effectful! Lamps similar to the lihghtbulbs shown in the left middle photo can be bought from Anthropologie (propicia target=”_blank”>Search for Blazon Gleam Pendants), and IKEA has cheap rice lamps like in the top right photo.

CARRIE BRADSHAW’S APARTMENT

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

I absolutely and completely love Carrie’s apartment in Sex and The City. I’m sure I’m not the only one who wouldn’t mind doing a house swap with Carrie. Permanently. It is just the way that all the furniture just seem to “happen to be there”, it looks like there is no real theme or plan to it but still everything just goes perfectly together. But, of course, hours and hours went into planning Carrie’s apartment. The Sex and the City Production Designer actually used a particular color theory viagra purchase for each of the girls’ apartments to help identifying their different characters and personalities. A lot of the furniture in Carries apartment were snatched up on New York City flea markets and second hand stores, hence the lived-in feeling.

On the HBO website you can see more photos of Carrie’s and the other girls’ apartments as well.

Oh if only I had an Upper East Side apartment with a big walk in closet and and Aidan-chair!

WELCOME TO INREDA!

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

My name is Sara Lundgren and beautiful interiors and designs make me happy.

I moved from Sweden to Australia about one and a half years ago and I thought this blog would be a good way to share my passion for Scandinavian design. I’m always on the lookout for new ideas and inspiration viagra bestellen and I will collect a lot of my inspirations and thoughts in this blog. I will also have a weekly pick where I will post one of my favourite finds of the week.

Since I’m a student (and hence have to spend most of my non-existing income on textbooks and ramen noodles) I sometimes also have to get my creative side out and make my own furniture and decorations. I will be posting my DIY projects on here as well.

Hopefully you will find this blog inspiring!
